The West Kirk of East Kilbride is a parish church of the Church of Scotland .
The parish follows the railway line from East Kilbride station. It includes West Mains, the East Kilbride Shopping Centre and Peel Park and goes as far west as Peel Road.
The West Kirk exists to serve everyone living or working in this area.
The West Kirk
• seeks to be a caring community where people feel comfortable and valued,
• aims to mobilise, encourage, challenge and equip people to live a practical Christian life,
• strives to see the Kingdom of Christ established locally and internationally.
The West Kirk was founded in 1791 as a secession church, - breaking away from the Established Church over the issue of patronage. With other congregations of the Relief Church it became part of the United Presbyterian Church and then the United Free Church before re-union with the Church of Scotland in 1929.
